Taking Care of Yourself
We know being online during uncertain times can be helpful, or confusing. MediaSmarts put together some of their best resources to help you manage during this time.
Too much of anything can be bad for you. Make sure to balance the time you spend on Wattpad and other online spaces with rest, exercise, and in-person socializing with friends and family.
Here are some tips to get you started!
Before you do anything online, decide how much time you’re going to spend on it. If you have trouble keeping track of time, set yourself a timer to remind you.
Don’t try to multitask or use more than one screen at once: that makes you use more energy less effectively.
Using any kind of screen device before going to bed will keep you from sleeping well, so set yourself a “digital bedtime” an hour before you plan to go to sleep.
Make sure there are times and places where you don’t go online at all. Try setting aside one day a week as a vacation from social networks.
Always remember, if something serious is bothering you, talk to someone you trust about it or contact a youth helpline (you can use this list of helplines to find one in your country.)
